Green Initiatives

Graves Dougherty is committed to modeling environmentally sound practices.

Kitchen Supplies

No paper products are used for conference room meal service except napkins. Meals are served with stoneware dishes and silverware rather than paper plates and plastic ware.  All of the plastic ware in break rooms was replaced with silverware and the firm does not supply styrofoam products.  All drinking cups are glass or stoneware.

Paper Management

Printing to all copy machines is default to double-sided printing. We use all 100% recycled paper in our copy machines, draft and letterhead printers. We use 30% post-consumer recycled paper in our color printers.

Recycling

Each conference room and kitchen/break room has two labeled recycling cans for plastic and aluminum. Each work-station, office and copy room has a recycling can for paper products.

We provide a convenient battery recycling bin in the office which is frequently taken and emptied at an off-site battery recycling location.

Waste Reduction

Graves Dougherty did away with bottled water in conference rooms and break rooms.

Several years ago, Graves Dougherty began using the on-line Austin telephone book thus eliminating scores of paper copies.

We commonly reuse general office supplies, including three-ring binders and file folders.  We hold a firm-wide Office Supply Reclamation Week twice a year to encourage lawyers and staff to clean out their work areas in order to restock supply rooms with unused or reusable supplies.

Transportation

In order to encourage the use of mass transit, Graves Dougherty offers a Public Transportation Reimbursement plan as part of the Cafeteria Plan benefit.

Other Measures

Graves Dougherty encourages all employees to continually think of ways to reduce waste and be environmentally conscious.  For instance, by deciding if an item can be shipped via ground rather than OverNight, therefore reducing the carbon footprint of that delivery.
